Sikkim to observes Rural Drinking Water Awareness Week

A State level meeting was convened at the conference hall of RMDD today with regard to the celebration of National Rural Drinking Water Awareness Week (NRDWAW) to be observed from February 20-25, 2014.

The programme was organized by Communication and Capacity Development Unit (CCDU), SIRD, Karfectar, Jorethang South Sikkim. It was informed that the programme will be held on the theme ‘taking charge of our water resources’.

The meeting discussed at length the proposed activities to be included in the celebration. It was also decided to observe the NRDWAW district wise starting from Gangtok, Mangan, Namchi, Geyzing and the valedictory function to be held in Gangtok itself.

The programme will included rally, marathon, involving the students and locals as well as other activities like street play, banners, placards, stickers  duly creating awareness on  the Rural Drinking Water and safe drinking water.

The Secretarry RMDD Mr D.R. Nepal highlighted about the importance of safe water supply and sanitation which is the priority of the State Government. He also sought cooperation from all the concerned department to make the awareness campaign a success and to impart awareness on the theme amongst the mass.
