The vice-president of All Sikkim Democratic Labour Front (ASDLF) Mr. BM Ramudamu said that if any kind of action against the non-teaching staff of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) is taken by its management, it will not be accepted by ASDLF.

The statement came after a circular was issued by the pro vice chancellor of SMIT, Brig Somnath Mishra to the non-teachings staff seeking explanation for their support in the recent two days Sikkim bandh that was called by ASDLF. The non-teaching staff had earlier issued a press release supporting the bandh after which the notice seeking explanation was issued by the Pro. Vice Chancellor.

“The bandh was called for the welfare of the workers working in various establishments and has no hidden political agenda,” ASDLF vice president said directing SMIT authorities to withdraw the notice sent to its non-teaching staff. Mr. Ramudamu further said that the demands of the non-teaching staff of SMIT should rather be taken up seriously by SMIT.

“At times when all the sections of people welcomed the bandh SMIT should not act odd,” Mr. Ramudamu concluded.
