Karmapa’s office praisese govt., criticises press

Press Release by Karmapa Office of Administration

(Dharamsala, Feb 6, 2011):

The Karmapa Office of Administration has welcomed the Central Government’s expression of confidence in His Holiness the Karmapa. Union Minister for Small Industries Virbhadra Singh travelled to the state from Delhi and made several clear statements of support for His Holiness the Karmapa and the Tibetan community as a whole. Addressing a press conference, Union Minister Singh charged the Himachal Pradesh state government with maligning His Holiness the Karmapa. He further urged regularizing land purchase rules to grant Tibetans certain rights to own land in Himachal Pradesh, in which Dharamsala is located. Union Minister Singh is a member of the Cabinet of the Indian Government and a five-time former chief minister of the state of Himachal Pradesh.

However, Karmapa Office of Administration expressed disappointed about the way some press has continued to report major inaccuracies and outright fabrications. “We reiterate in the strongest possible terms that reports, such as the one published most recently by Times of India, that Chinese SIM cards were seized from the monastery is pure fiction. No SIM cards were taken, as can be confirmed by the seizure list prepared (FIR No23/11, dated 26/1/2011 by the police). The repeated assertion of this outright lie constitutes baseless slander, and defames the character of one of the most revered figures in Tibetan Buddhism. The fact that such fictitious reports are published without contacting the accused party’s spokespersons for comments indicates that these members of the press are are not objective reporters”, the release said. It welcomed the press to contact the office, check their facts or seek comment, and raise the standards of responsible journalism.

  The Indian press has already shown the congress government what it can dig out in the very recent scams.
  Be careful your cheat ful ways will not work with the press. May be the corrupt congress ministers and goons can be managed not the press. All the positive things in the country are happening after the press took them to task

  It takes 4 months to get all the information under the Right To Information Act. The issues just started wait till more startling revelations will be made public.
  There is a rival Karmapa and Chinese agencies to give more Information.

  If the Tibetans continue to force this suspicious Karmapa and his cronies on the Indian People it will be very detrimental for the Indian support for Tibet. With the demise of the Dalai Lama this little support will totally vanish.
  
  As for India it will put more restrictions on the Karmapa.

  It is interesting to see how mass opinion is generated. I’m not sure if you are only a victim of this machine, jsmurthy, but let’s not just keep it running at top speed. We need to stay with the questions longer so that suspicions, which may be made up to manipulate us, do not immediately become convictions.
  The media style on this story, EXCEPT isikkiim, is looking more and more like the Chinese media machine, including comment “trolls” attempting to inflame the opinions.

  False allegations aginst His Holiness the Karmapa, not only hurt the Tibetans but also millions of Mahayan Buddhist living in the Himalayas. I speak as an Indian Citizen and an ardent Mahayan Buddhist. We have deep faith in our institutions and anyone denigrating our Lamas should beware. We shall not take it lying down.

  It seems odd that this Karmapa’s administration vilified Karmapa Thaye Dorje and now wants the press to be kind when India is calling this issue a national security threat. It is beyond bizarre that the Chinese government and the Gelugpa lineage are supporting a so-called Kagyu lama. In fact it’s unheard of. Many people in Bejing heard that this Karmapa was escaping two months prior to his departure from Tibet. I am one of those individuals. If the Karmapa’s Administration is truthful then why did it participate in an event where books were burned – exposing corruption in Tibetan Buddhism? Why has Sharmapa been demonized?

  The Karmapa being accused as a Cinese spy has TGIE’s pawprint on all of it. TGIS first started calling Tibetans who worshiped dorje shugden as Chinese spies. lets say of TGIS has got the tenacity to pursue this matter further.
