AAGSU welcomes release of ULFA Chairman

In a positive development in the state of Assam, today on 1st of January 2011, Chairman of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) was released as part of confidence building measures for the proposed peace talks. The ALL ASSAM GORKHA STUDENTS’ UNION (AAGSU), the apex organization of the Gorkha populace of Assam has welcomed the release of jailed United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa through a press release. Gorkhas of Assam by nature have been peace loving community in this region since time immemorial. As a part of ‘Sanmillita Jatiya Abivartan’ in Guwahati, the then AAGSU President and now Chief Advisor Dil Bahadur Limboo appealed the house and people of Assam to create a conducive atmosphere where the arms struggling freedom fighters of Assam the ULFA could be brought to the negotiating table without any pre-conditions to them. Further the release also states that AAGSU is committed to the proposed peace process and the Gorkha populace of Assam supports all initiatives undertaken by the ‘Jatiya Abivartan’ and will actively participate in all democratic strategy making process.

They have termed this development as a positive sign towards the proposed peace process. Assam awaits a new beginning in 2011 filled with joy, peace and prosperity. On the sidelines of this, the organization has appealed to the Assam Government and Union Home Ministry to negotiate with ULFA in a very conducive atmosphere and amicably find an acceptable solution. They have also appealed the ULFA to sit and initiate the peace process with the Union and the State Government in favour of the peace loving populace of Assam who for the last 31 years supported the freedom movement of Assam.
