Illegally smuggled eggs confiscated from Lall Market

The officials of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Livestock, Fisheries and Veterinary Services, along with the Police personnel raided the shops at Lall Market (Kanchanchanjunga Shopping Complex) at Gangtok on Tuesday and confiscated 3293 numbers of smuggled poultry eggs bought from outside the State which were being sold here.

The State Government has banned the sale of eggs bought from outside the state in the apprehension of bird flu which is expected to result in human hazard. This raid was carried out vide notification no. 1/AH,LF& VS dated 22/04/2010. As per a press note issued by the department the confiscated eggs were destroyed in the presence of the department officials and public in the premises of the Animal Husbandry complex on 23rd November 2010.
