India-Asia Region CPA joint Conference held

As per the Press Release received from Secretary, Sikkim Legislative Assembly Secretariat, Shri. K.T. Gyaltsen, Hon’ble Speaker and Shri. M.B. Dahal, Hon’ble Deputy Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly accompanied by Shri. D. Rinchen, Secretary and two officers of Sikkim Legislative Assembly Secretariat are presently at Raipur, Chhattisgarh to attend the prestigious 4th India and Asia Region CPA joint Conference from 25th – 29th October 2010. The delegates from London, Bangladesh, Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and almost all the Presiding Officers of Indian State CPA Branches attended the Conference.

The main topics discussed on the conference are as under:

1 Plenary Session-I “Terrorism and Naxalism: Threat to Democracy-Need for joint Effort in the Region”

2 Plenary Session-II “Food Security and Co-operation at Regional Levels: Role and Responsibility of Legislatives”.

Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha and Chairperson of CPA India Region, Smt Meira Kumar inaugurated the 4th India & Asia Region CPA Conference on 26th October’ 2010 at a solemn function in the Dr. Shyama Prasad Auditorium at the Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha premises.

The Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha also inaugurated two exhibitions, viz (i) Democracy and Development: An Asian Perspective, organized by the Lok Sabha Secretariat and the Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha Secretariat in collaboration with the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) of the Government of India, and (ii) A Decade of Chhattisgarh: An Overview, organized by the CPA Chhattisgarh Branch and the Government of Chhatrisgarh at the premises of the Vidhan Sabha.

Shri. K.T. Gyaltsen, Hon’ble Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly participated in both the subject matters on 26th Oct, and 27th October’ 2010 respectively.
