The Karmapa Charitable Trust (KCT) observed its Golden Jubilee Anniversary here at Rumtek and Gangtok as informed by a press release issued by the Public Relation Officer to HH the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Trinley Thaye Dorje.

The KCT was initially founded by the Late His Holiness the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa Ranjgung Rigpe Dorje in 1961 to undertake varied dharma activities across the World from His Seat in Exile at Rumtek, East Sikkim.

However, keeping in view of the recent passing away of its last surviving parent Trustee Shri Ashok Chand Burman, the scale of observation was scaled down to a very simple and formal one. The observation started with the chanting of auspicious prayers followed by offering of Tashi Jeda at the portrait of HH the late 16th Gyalwang Karmapa.

The KCT Trustee Trateng Yarpa JT Gyaltsen graced the celebration at Gangtok as it Chief Guest. The observation was joined amongst others by Monk community, local luminaries and followers of HH the Gyalwang Karmapa.

While addressing the gathering present, Yarpa Gyaltsen related the followers of various activities that the KCT is being undertaking as per the wishes of the late His Holiness, across the world. He also briefed them about the future role and activities of the KCT which he mentions will work purely as per the wishes and commandments of the HH the late Gyalwang Karmapa.

The participants also remembered all the past Trustees and the sincere service rendered by them to the activities of the Trust such as the Late Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche, Late Barmiok Athing Tashi Dadul Densapa, Late Trateng Yarpa TS Gyaltsen, Late Topga Rinpoche, Late Gyan Jyoti Shakya, etc. At the outset of the meeting, all stood in silence for two minutes to mourn the recent passing away of Shri Ashok Chand Burman.

The Monks and lay community also offered Ku Tse Shyapten (Long-life aspiration prayer for HH the 17the Gyalwang Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje and HH the 14th Gyalwang Shamarpa Mipham Chokyi Lodrue. The gathering also decided to observe a grand Golden Jubillee celebration later in the year.

Earlier a commemorative Tree plantation was organized by Yarpa Gyaltsen in and around Rumtek. It is put on record here that the KCT acknowledges Trinley Thaye Dorje as the official and genuine reincarnation of the late Gyalwang Karmapa, as recognized by HH the 14th Gyalwang Shamarpa Mipham Chokyi Lodrue.
