Gangtok, Dec. 14, 2010
The party is speaking on the Sikkim Subject issue and about the right of the Sikkimese hence the Non-Sikkimese have no right whatsoever to comment on the matter, said President of Sikkim National Peoples Party Biraj Adhikari while addressing a press conference in the capital on December 14. He said that the State Government should stop the process of distributing Residential Certificates (RC) to non-Sikkimese as this will put the future of the genuine people of Sikkim in danger.
The number of left out Sikkimese people is incresing every year. If it continues to increse like this, then a day will come when the original Sikkimese will have to live as minority in their own state. RC will provide the non-Sikkimese with a documentary proof of their residence in the State which will endanger the right of the Sikkimese people. Hence he again added that the issue of RC should be stopped immidiately by the State Government. Non-Sikkimese have no right to speak on this issue.
Condemning the statement made by Shri Prem Goyal that SNPP is against their right Adhikari added that they are speaking for the right of true Sikkimese and Prem Goyal does not have any authority to speak on this matter. He also urged the Government to take immediate action on the fake Sikkim Subject Holders. There are around thirty one thousand fake Sikkim Subject Holders and the Government is still maintaining silence on the issue. The Central Government should also be informed regarding the RC issue.
A Notification was issued in the year 1995 accepting 1975 as the cutoff year. The State Government had already issued Sikkim Subject to the left out people but again the Government wants to issue this certificate to yet another group of people. Sikkim is a border state and the issue of RC may increse the risk of influx in the State. This will adversely affect National security. He also said that the Chief Minister himself is facing charges of dual citizenship.
Three new members Bhimshila Rai, West District Women’s President of Sikkim Himali Rajya Parisahd Party, Tika Chettri Working President of SHRP and Tsholong Bhutia have joined SNPP.
