Addressing a block level meeting of the Sikkim Democratic Front party that was held at the East Point School, Golita, Singtam.
Mr G. M. Guruns said that everyone should take advantage of the total health checkup which is being provided free of cost by the SDF Government. He further added that the said programme that has been launched to make the people of Sikkim healthy will have to succeed, for which total participation from the public is a must.
He also said that the SDF Government is working towards making Sikkim a poverty free State by 2013 and appealed to all the people to help the Government in achieving its target. Sustainable profession like tourism that will have scope even years after should be chosen by the people he added. In his address he also expressed his concern over the increasing cases of drug peddling and drug use amongst the people of this area and also informed that the efforts are being made to monitor and control this social evil and steps are also being taken to divert the mind of the young generation to sports.
He also appealed to the people not to pay any heed to the anti social elements who try to bring conflict in the society in the name of community or religion. Lastly he mentioned about his recent visit to Nepal and other tourist destinations and added that Sikkim has the potential to become like any other famous tourist destination.
