Sikkim Police in Governor”s Gold quarters

Gangtok, Oct 22: Sikkim Police today fought hard to enter the quarterfinal of Governor’s Gold Cup defeating Denzong Boys 2-1 at Paljor Stadium here. Sikkim Police managed to get a place in the quarterfinal through Thupden Bhutia’s goal off a Sisir Karthok cross just two minutes before the final whistle. Denzong Boys failed to score from a penalty shoot as the Sikkim Police goalkeeper deflected the ball early in the match. In the 28th minute, Sikkim Police striker Chunku Sherpa dribbled the ball from the centre and shot it from outside the D-box to score a goal. The goal kept Sikkim Police into the lead till the second half whistle. The second half of the game saw both teams playing their best with the sides attacking equally. The equaliser for Denzong Boys in the game came in the 85th minute when a well anticipated cross was smashed into the Sikkim Police goal by Emanuel Dias Gbamy. However, Denzong Boys lost after Thupden scored the in the 90th minute of the game.
