Sikkim students won national folk dance competition

Rumtek Senior Secondary School has bagged the first position in the folk dance competition in National Children’s Festival held at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on 12th December, 2010.

This winning team had presented Tamang Selo (the traditional dance of the Tamang Community) in the said competition. The Department of HRDD had selected 12 students from Rumtek Senior Secondary School to participate in the competition.

Students were accompanied by four teachers and four musicians from Culture Department. “The information was given to me over phone and I am happy that our school bagged the first prize in such a prestigious event”said Mrs Asha Khatri, the Principal of the school. Fourteen states from across India had participated in the competition which was started on 11th of December. The group from Sikkim will reach the State on 17th December.
