SKYS starts its youth awareness program from West District

Sikkim Yuva Samaj an organization which works for the upliftment of youths works as a path shower for the youths and also voices their problems as a common platform. The organization is also working to dissipate awareness amongst the youths about the social evils like drug addiction.

Addressing the media the Publicity Secretary SKYS Mr. Bikram Pradhan informed that the Samaj is currently visiting every college, higher educational institutions across the state generating awareness amongst the students about education and also the ruling government’s plans and policies concerning the education sector. Informing more Mr. Pradhan said that SKYS central committee team led by the president Mr. Karma Subba started the visit from 2nd of August from the newly established Kyongsa College, in the west district. During their visit the team of SKYS informed the students about the purpose of visit and about the organization.

Further it was also informed that the students of the college expressed their gratitude towards the Chief Minister for starting the college in west district giving them an opportunity to pursue their higher education without having to go outside.

Furthermore Mr. Pradhan said that the Kyongsa College is affiliated to Vinayaka Mission University instead of Sikkim University due to the rigidness of the Vice Chancellor of Sikkim University.

However during the presentation made by SKYS they informed the students of Kyongsa College that VMU is also an recognized university falling under 184 university functioning across the nation and the students expressed their relief and happiness after knowing the same.

The Kyongsa College in west district currently has only 25 and as informed by Pradhan the main reason for the low enrollment is the reservation in the minds of the students regarding affiliation. After their visit of the college the members also met the youths of Gyalsing and after hearing them all the youths have also become members of the organization.

Mr. Pradhan further informed that the organization will be holding a Youth convention in the month of December where over 25,000 youths from across the state will be taking part and the convention will discuss on every plans and programs of the ruling government for the youths in the state concerning development of state as a whole. Apart from the youths the convention will also focus on evil practices like drug abuse which is presently a burning issue in the state and many more.

Mr. Pradhan mentioning further said that SKYS totally supports the vision of the ruling government in education sector.  The SKYS program was also attended by the executive members, State coordinator (SKYS) Mr. Santosh Siwakoti along with district coordinators of SKYS.
