The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) National Committee Members Ashok Biswa and Pankaj Chhetri are currently on a visit to Northern India (mainly Delhi, Haryana, Roorkee and Uttarkhand) to speak to the Gorkhas residing in this region and further strengthen the party in Northern India. After a week long stay at Delhi and a visit to Roorkee, they are currently in Uttarkhand since last three days. They held meetings with the GJM workers in Dehradun and have been visiting Gorkha majority areas in Uttarkhand.

On Sunday, they visited Balkumari, Laltappa and Fetehpur. These are remote villages situated amidst dense forest on a Dehradun-Hariwar highway. The Gorkhas in these hamlets are surviving in extremely poor and adverse condition.

On Sunday evening, the GJM delegation headed by GJM National Committee Member Ashok Biswa and Pankaj Chhetri met the chief Minister of Uttarkhand, Dr. Ramesh Kumar Pokhriyal “Nishank”. They were accompanied by GJM members from Dehradun Ravi Biswas Rai (General Secretary), Mrs. Ashu Lama (Conveyor), and Sudhanshu Upadhaya (Yuva Morcha President). Also present in the meeting was Mrs. Dipti Rawat Bhardwaj, the BJP spokesperson from Uttarkhand.

The meeting was held in a very cordial environment and it lasted for almost 45 mins. The meeting was mainly held for introducing GJM members from Dehradun to the Chief Minister. The duo informed the Chief Minister about the formation of GJM Dehradun unit on 27th Feb’2011 and its work and activities till this day.

The CM assured the party of all the help and support. The Chief Minister congratulated GJM on its emphatic victory in the recently held election in West Bengal and formation of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) in the hills. He praised GJM Supremo Bimal Gurung for his role and efforts in bringing change in the state politics.

The GJM delegation invited Mr. Pokhriyal for a visit to Darjeeling and he whole-heartedly accepted it and thanked GJM for such a warm gesture. He mentioned that he has heard and read a lot about natural beauty of Darjeeling hills but has never been lucky to visit the place. So, he’ll surely visit Darjeeling in near future”.

When, Mr. Ashok Biswa informed that GJM President Mr. Gurung may visit Dehradun in days to come, the CM welcomed him to Uttarkhand. He supported and encouraged the GJM delegation and said that “GJM can play a pivotal role in the welfare of the Gorkhas residing in Uttarkhand”.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Dr. Nishank is truly a mass leader having empathy towards Gorkha Jan Mukti movement. On several occasions he has highlighted the historic role Gorkha Community has played all over the World, virtually on every occasion. I think GJM should nominate him as their patron on National level.
