‘National Education Day’ observed in Sikkim

Educational institutions across the state today celebrated the ‘National Education Day’, to commemorate the birthday of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, an eminent educationist, a great leader of India’s freedom struggle and the first Union Minister of Education of independent India.

The department of Human Resource Development has strictly directed the all the schools in Sikkim to observe the National education day. The National Education day was celebrated at Namong Arithang Primary school by conducting vocabulary quiz completion and the cultural presentations.

The ward panchayat Dawa Pintso Lepcha attended the function as the chief guest. KT Khampa, the principal of the school in his address said that the Ministry of Human Resource Development, had on September 11, 2008 announced, “The Ministry has decided to commemorate the birthday of this great son of India by recalling his contribution to the cause of education in India.

The chief guest Dawa Pintso informed the students that Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad is credited with innovative measures in the field of education. ‘As an education minister Azad was involved in the creation of a national education system with free basic education and modern institutions of higher education’ he said.The members of school management committee also attended the program.
