Bharatiya Janta Party Sikkim Unit staged a dharna (protest) against the wide spread corruption in the State Government in front of the office of the District Collector, East, Gangtok.
Protest was also joined by Member of Parliament (MP) of Kathihar, Bihar State, Mr Nikhil Chowdhury. In an interaction with the media Mr Nikhil Chowdhury said that he is here to support the State unit of BJP in their fight against corruption in the State Government. He added that as per the CAG report the present Government of Sikkim has siphoned large money, meant for the development of the region and also said that he will raise voice against this in the next Parliament session. Mr. Chowdhury further alleged that the State Government has misused the North East Development Fund.
He reiterated that Bharatiya Janta Party is very serious about the issue of corruption and they also plan to organize a Dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi regarding this corruption issue of Sikkim Government. He said that due to lack of opposition party in Sikkim Legislative Assembly the ruling government has been doing monopoly in the State but BJP will keep an eye on all the activities of Sikkim Government.
Elaborating his allegation he added that the Central Government has sent a lot of fund for the development of the State but the fund has been misused by the State Government. He also stated that BJP will demand for a CBI enquiry against the SDF Government. State government should give clarification about the utilization or misutilization of special fund for North Eastern Development. He lastly added that the BJP Sikkim Unit will spread public awareness regarding this serious issue amongst the masses.
Similarly Mr. Padam Chettri, President of Bharatiya Janta Party Sikkim Unit informed that regarding this issue of corruption the party has already submitted a memorandum to the Governor and the Chief Secretary, Government of Sikkim and they have to provide a reply within one month. He further added that if they fail to provide an answer within one month the party will organize a month long Dharna. Mr. Chettri further alleged that according to CAG report Government has misused Rs 6254 crores in power project alone.
