Press Release

His Holiness the Dalai Lama launched the first ever Buddhist Television programme called “NOBLE WISDOM” last year on Sadhna TV at Patna on May 27, 2010. The initiative of a Buddhism based TV programme was taken by Sherab Sangpo Society, a based Delhi non profit charitable society founded under the auspices of His Eminence Tsona Gontse Rinpoche. The last year’s launch of the TV programme event coincided with the very auspicious occasion of Buddh-Purnima (the day when Lord Buddha was born, attained Englightenment and Maha-Parinirvana).

The society through the medium of television aspires to build a platform to give an access of the precious sublime Buddhist philosophy and teachings of Lord Buddha to the common masses specially those living in the Himalayan region of Ladakh, Himachal, Uttranchal, Sikkim, West Bengal, Assam and Arunachal.

People living in the Himalayan region follow the same Buddhist tradition for centuries. Due to their geographical location and lack of access to Buddhist teachings, the society launched this programme to introduce them to the wonderful teachings of Buddhist masters while staying at home engaged in their professional daily lives.

The programme is not just restricted to Buddhists but it also aims to reach to the non Buddhist people who have genuine interest and desire to learn more about Buddhism. The programme telecasts and broadcasts the very simple message of Buddha, i.e. peace, love, tolerance, wisdom, selfless service and compassion. These basic human values are universal and very much relevant in today’s world where there are lot of conflicts, violence, distrust and problems ranging from political to environmental issues.

The Buddhist programme was also being aired simultaneously in Nepal on the channel Nepal 1 till recently apart from Sadhna Channel in India. But the Nepalese channel is said to have later objected to showing of His Holiness the Dalai Lama under Chinese influence.

The Buddhist Television programme “NOBLE WISDOM” will now be aired on a new channel NE TV [Noth East] from 2nd of July 2011. Tsona Rinpoche is also very much involved in the spiritual upliftment of these Buddhist minorities living in the north eastern states.
