Dzongri Sporting to play B div. football league in Guwahati

The Dzongri Sporting Club is all set to make its second appearance in the “B Division Football League” to be held in Guwahati from 1st of October 2011 and the club this time has fielded 6 soccer talents from rural Sikkim in the team.

Dzongri Sporting Club is one of the oldest clubs in the state formed in 1980. The club has been giving preference to hidden soccer talents of the remote areas and providing them opportunities to show case their talents in the bigger platforms.

The Coordinator of Dzongri FC, Paul Bhutia said that the boys were selected following a month long coaching camp held earlier in the capital. These 6 players will be representing from Ganga Sports Club, Guwahati in the higher base. The 6 player selected to represent the club in the B Division League in Guwahati are Mingma Lepcha (Dzongu), Padam Chettri (Melli), Bijay Chettri and Susan Rai ( Pakyong), Pema Thendup Sherpa (Ravangla) and Lakpa Sherpa (Gangtok).

Bhutia asserted that it is for the second time that the club has got entry into the league following their impressive performance in the last edition.
The league being played is of open category where there will be competitions between teams participating from a total of 10 different states.

The League is being organized by Guwahati Sports Association and will be very tough when it comes to competitions. The best performing teams will earn a place in the A Division League, Mr. Paul informed.

Paul said that tapping the rural football talents and assisting them with proper technical skill along with giving them platforms to showcase their
soccer skills too.

The General Secretary of Ganga Sports Club, Guwahati Ashok Sharma said that the league aims to promote, expose and ultimately open roads for the rural soccer talents from the North East Region, to catch up with the bigger clubs in the country.

The league is not confined to Guwahati only. The teams will be travelling to Shillong as well as other big stadiums during the course of the league, informed Mr. Sharma. The selected players will undergo training under Mr. Paul till the commencement of the B Division league.
