Dzongri Sporting Club conducts a meet for revival of its past glory

A meeting of Dzongri Sporting Club, one of the premier football clubs of Sikkim was held in the capital on July 24, 2011 which was attended by most of its founding members.

The meeting was held subsequent to the overwhelming demands amongst the lovers and well-wishers of the club to revive the lost glory of this most prestigious football club and inaugurate a foundation that upholds the popularity of football amongst the Sikkimese mass amid priority given to the sports by the present Government.

Such development is also influenced by the club’s concern to divert the younger generation from negative influences. In the meeting, unanimously formed an Adhoc Executive Body to coordinate its activities till an elected Executive Committee is constituted. The meeting also resolved to conduct another meeting of the Club on August 1, 2011 to expand its activities and requested all its founding members to attend the same.

It is also decided that the club henceforth would also promote other sports like Volley-ball, Table Tennis, Badminton, Athletics and many more as well as social activities.

Dzongri Sporting Club, a familiar and beloved name to most of the Sikkimese football-lovers, is one of the most sought-after football teams that featured some of the best Sikkimese footballers like Mr. Karma Loday Bhutia, International player and national players like Mr. Chewang T. Sangdarpa, and others. The club was founded in 1980. Infact, Dzongri Sporting Club lifted several national and other prestigious tourneys with overwhelming performances in India, Bhutan and Nepal and neighboring regions. The meeting unanimously expressed it gratitude to Mr. Chewang and his colleagues for so persistently maintaining the existence of the club till date.
