Bear attacks lady in Dzongu area of Sikkim

GANGTOK, September 30

A 50 year old lady Tika Tamang, wife of Mani Kumar Tamang, was attacked by a bear at Passingdang in Upper Dzongu,on Thursday morning.

The lady had gone to collect the fodder in nearby a bridge between Passingdang and Leek village around 5:30 in the morning where she had been attacked by the bear. She had been rushed to the District Hospital Mangan where the doctor referred her to STNM Hospital Gangtok, due to the critical case as she got injured over her neck.

Later, the forest patrolling team led by DFO Territorial (North), Sugen Saring, DFO KNP, Sangay Bhutia and Range Officer, TW Lachung along with the forest personnel patrolled in the area.

The Range Officer TW Lachungpa informed that the bear must have entered in the Reserve Forest from the left bank of the river Kanaka. Lachungpa also informed that a tranquilizer team will patrol the Reserve Forest by Friday.
