Sikkim: National Education Day to be celebrated with full fervor

The Ministry of Human Resource Development Department (HRDD), Government of India to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s First Education Minister, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad is celebrating the National Education Day on 11th November 2011.

Mahatma Gandhi used to call Maulana Azad the “Emperor of Knowledge”. He was the one who laid the foundation of our education policy .On this day the Government is launching a nationwide campaign “Shiksha Ka Haq Abhayan”. The message of the Prime Minister of India will be read out aloud during the School assembly on that day, informed CS Rao, Secretary, HRDD, Government of Sikkim in a press release.

In the State of Sikkim, HRDD is celebrating the day at the State level, District Level, Block Level and all the Schools. All efforts will be taken to spread the awareness on the Right to Education (RTE) across the State.

To mark this beginning the message of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister will be read aloud in the School Assembly throughout the State. The Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Day will kick start with a rally from the Titanic Park, M.G.Marg which will be led by the Minister, HRDD, Government of Sikkim and end at the Chintan Bhawan where the rest of the programme will be held. The highlight of the programme will be a play based on the Right to Education (RTE) by an NGO, added the Secretary.
