Karmapa office: No notice served to HH 17th Karmapa

In the backdrop of newspaper reports that the police have filed charge sheet in the court naming the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorjee, HH Karmapa’s office has issued statement that they have not been served any notice from any official or courts. The case is related to seizing of about $1.4m (£900,000) in cash at his monastery in Dharamsala early this year.

Karmapa Office of Administration has only read media reports, and has not been served with any official or court notice. As per the information with the Karmapa Office of Administration, the CJM court at Una, Himachal Pradesh (INDIA) is yet to take cognizance of the alleged offences against the Karmapa. The entire matter is sub-judice and as such we cannot offer any comments at this stage.

We have always offered our full cooperation and assistance throughout the investigation. The Karmapa Office of Administration has provided the authorities with complete details and documents pertaining to the case. At no point of time His Holiness was ever called or examined by the investigating agency. His Holiness has no involvement, direct or indirect, in the financial administration of the office or trust.

Karmapa Office of Administration is in regular touch with their lawyers and the next course of action will be decided only once the Honourable court takes any decision on the charge-sheet filed.
