The Sikkim chapter of Special Olympics Bharat (SOB) made Baichung Bhutia its brand ambassador on Saturday. It was announced during the valedictory function of the 5-day Advance Coaches Training Programme (ACTP) in softball and athletes, organized by SOB, Sikkim in which more than 50 player from eight states participated.
Former Indian Football captain and soccer celebrity and now SOB’s Brand Ambassador Bhaichung Bhutia praised SOB for doing remarkable job in training the differently abled. On his selection as brand ambassador, he stated that it is an honour for him to represent SOB, Sikkim and assured to do everything possible to fulfill his responsibilities.
N.K Pradhan, Sports & Youth Affairs (S&YA) Minister and also Chief Guest of the day said that SOB, Sikkim Chapter has made its presence felt in the country and outside by winning many trophies during international Olympics. Talking about the qualities and task of a coach/ trainer, he said that tremendous responsibilities lie on their shoulders. They have to face many challenges in every sphere especially in the new age where younger generations often tempt to follow wrong path. A coach/trainer/teacher should be very patient, strong willed and determined. They should give their best to influence apprentices positively.
Interacting with the participants, he said that the trainers should be committed and dedicated while training the differently abled. “ACTP was an excellent initiative taken by SOB, Sikkim Chapter and they should come forward with more such programmes”, he concluded.
Along with the participants, Dr. C.P Dhakal Area Director SOB Sikkim Chapter, N.K Chettri Assistant Area Director and several other members of the organization were also present during the function.
