Sikkim police held two suspects in SHIGA HEP vandalism case

Two persons, named Yapchung Bhutia and Prabhuram Chettri has been arrested by State police in West Sikkim, whereas one more accused Millan Subba escaped.

All the three accused are identified to be involved in SHIGA HEP Premise vandalism case. Speaking to Sikkim Mail, SP west Mr. D B Giri informed that a case was registered on January 16 by SHIGA HEP, where it was mentioned that some unidentified persons tried to vandalize the equipments pouring Kerosene oil on the night of January 15. In above connection, these three persons were identified and arrest has been made.

A case has been registered under the section 447/435/IPC, which is a bailable offence. The third accused Millan Subba has escaped, but he will be arrested soon, stated Mr. Giri.

Police is interrogating both of the accused. Member of ‘Save Sikkim forum’ Tseten Tashi has strongly condemned the incident. He maintained that such activities are not a part of ‘Save Sikkim’s’ agenda. 

Committee has already assured to cooperate in scrapping the HEP previously. “Whosoever is involved should be questioned. Police should also behave according to the human right laws”, he suggested.
