Sikkim to observe Martyr’s Day on January 30

Sikkim will observe Martyrs’ Day on 30th January, 2012 at all Government Offices at Gangtok and Districts as well as the Sub-Divisional Headquarters. The occasion will mark observance of two minutes’ silence in the memory of those who gave their lives in the struggle for India’s freedom. All work and movement including the traffic will stop exactly from 11am throughout the State. Wherever available, the commencement and termination of two minutes’ silence period should be indicated by sound of siren. The day will be observed with due soleminity. Father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on January 30 by Nathuram Godse.
