It seems that there is no end to the tussle between Sikkim Government and the members of All Sikkim Departmental Adhoc Staff Group over the demand of extension and regularization of the contract term of more than 1000 Adhoc teachers under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA). The group wants the state government to extend their tenure.

“People from outside could not understand the feeling of indigenous locals’, said member of All Sikkim Departmental Adhoc Staff Group (ASDASG) Sunil Pradhan. He also criticized Secretary, Human Resource and Development Department (HRDD) CS Rao for his alleged irresponsible statement. “Despite being an IFS officer, Mr. Rao gave highly irresponsible statement in media on February 6”, he underlined.

He further mentioned that the statement motivated the group and all the members have decided to sit collectively on an indefinite hunger strike from today. Eight members namely Nisha Rai, Sachin Pradhan, Sishir Subba, Srijana Basnett, Netra Kharel, Kamaml Panchakoti, BB Rai and Prem Tshering Lepcha participated today in indefinite hunger strike. The group have now decided to not to talk any departmental officer from today onwards since they have failed to find any solution to their problems and demands. The group have now decided to directly approach Chief Minister Chamling.

Similarly, member Divyani Subedi informed that they will continue their movement until and unless they receive any solution to solution to their demands. She further mentioned that SP East had visited on February 6 and appealed President Sonam Jigme Sherpa to get admitted in the hospital, but president turned down his offer.

Two senior members of the association has been staging indefinite hunger strike since January 29 in front of DC office, Sichey. However, they are still waiting for government’s response. President Sherpa and Vice President Tamang have resolved to sacrifice their life for the cause.

Vice president Tamang was admitted in STNM hospital from February 5, but President has denied to get admitted to the hospital. Moreover, he is not even taking any medical facilities until and unless government offers to settle down the issue.

Earlier, around hundred members of the group had gone to meet CM Pawan Chamling on January 23 in Mintokgang.
