United Sikkim on top of I-League 2nd Div; Beats ONGC 4-2

Daniel Bidemi’s two goals fired United Sikkim Football Club to the top of the round 2 of 2nd division I League as Bhaichung Bhutia’s USFC defeated the formidable ONGC Mumbai 4-2 in the second match being played at Kanchendzonga stadium here in Siliguri on Monday.

Bhaichung’s United Sikkim secured their second successive league win thanks to a brace from Sikkim striker Bidemi and that allowed the team to move with clear six points to the top of the table.

Today United Sikkim made a fast start as Bidemi scored an early goal in the 2nd minutes to set United Sikkim on their way. Again Bedimi’s deflected shot found the ONGC net after few minutes which sealed the win midway. Though United Sikkim was leading the game, the players seemed not to be resting and were up to attacking football. The first half-score line remained 2-0 in favor of United Sikkim.

In the second half powered with poise United Sikkim added another in the opponent net. This time Quinton Jacobs scored another goal taking the score to 3-0. In the late second half of the match ONGC scored a goal from the penalty spot.

Hiralal Chettri scored the last goal for United Sikkim where ONGC in the stoppage time of the match found another goal. Bhaichung Bhutia played in the last 15 minutes of the game. The scoreboard remained 4-2 in favor of United Sikkim.

Manager USFC, Arjun Rai after the match said that, USFC till date has played its best format. Winning ONGC Mumbai is great in itself as it is one of the strongest teams in the tournament. The support for the team was applauding and the confidence level of the team has been lifted to greater level.

USFC next match is with Kalighat MS, Kolkata, on 15th March at the same venue. “For us every match is crucial” said Rai and added that the boys are putting their label best efforts in the game.

Commenting on the next opponent Kalighat, Rai said that USFC had crushed the team in the earlier encounter during ONGC cup 2011 held at Tripura.

“We hope that we will also win the next match” stated Rai highlighting today performance of the team.
