Road mishap claims one life in Sikkim

Gangtok, 31 July 2012:

A Bolero Plus vehicle skidded off 250 ft below the road, hence killing its driver on the spot. The accident took place today at Burtuk along the stretch between Vajra to Tashi View Point during which the Bolero Plus vehicle bearing no. SK 03/ J0428 after slipping off the road nearly reached the lower road leading to Indira by-pass.

As per the information received from the Sadar Thana PI, Tshering Sherpa the incident occurred at around 3:30 in the afternoon. It became quite difficult for the search team to recover the body due to the afternoon rain; however, after an hour of search operation conducted by the Sadar Thana Police and Fire Brigade team led by PC Lepcha, the personals recovered the dead body of the driver, he added. The deceased driver has been identified as Prakash Chettri, a resident of Lingdok, Dzongu. It has also been informed that the fateful vehicle which was plying towards Mangan from Gangtok from belongs to relative of Rangrang OC.

The cause of the accident is not yet known and no foul play has been detected. “Since the road is narrow and it is an accident prone area, so as of now it seems that the vehicle skidded accidentally,” said the PI. The post mortem of the body shall be conducted tomorrow, he added.
