Sikkim: 4 accused arrested in Pakyong gangrape case

Gangtok, January 4, 2013

The fourth and final accused of an alleged gang-rape of a 14-yearold girl at Rorathang in East Sikkim was nabbed on December 31st night. The teenager was absconding since the alleged incident took place on December 27.

Pakyong police station incharge Mahendra Subba said the accused was arrested from Tareythang village. “The boy who was absconding since the incident wandered in the forest for three days and finally reached his stepfather’s house. He was arrested late night,” he said.

The accused, 14 years of age, was presented before the principle magistrate of Juvenile Justice Board and has been sent to a juvenile home here at Upper Sichey. He used to work as a vehicle helper.

Charge sheet against all the four accused persons would be soon filed by the police to the court once the investigations are over, it was informed.

The other accused persons, Man Bahadur Kami (26), Purna Kami (19) and Nar Bahadur Kami (26) are under judicial custody at Rongyek jail.

Members of State Women Commission met the victim and the family members on Monday.

“The girl narrated the incident in front of the commission members. We have taken note of that and we hope the law will punish the culprits” said commission chairperson Subadhra Rai.
