Sikkim Taekwondo players meet Governor

Sikkimese players bagged 6 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze

A seven-member delegation of Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association (SATA) led by Y. B. Thapa, President SATA called on the Governor Shriniwas Patil here in the Raj Bhawan today.

It may be mentioned here that eight team members of SATA had participated in the 7th C. K. Malaysia Classic 2013 International Teakwondo Championship 2013. The event was held from 23rd to 25th August 2013 wherein 1156 participants from 22 countries had participated.  The Sikkimese team had bagged 6 gold, 2 silver and three bronze in various categories.

While interacting with the players, the Governor applauded them for bagging gold, silver and bronze medals in various categories from the international arena. He also felt the need of recognition and promotion of these players in the national level who bought glory and laurel to the state and the country as well.

The Governor also expressed his desire to send the details and photographs of the winners to the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India and also approach for their support and encouragement.

He added that if some sort of support and recognition could be provided to the Taekwondo players their talent will be further boost up. The Governor also asked the team members to approach the Secretary Raj Bhawan in case of any help and support.

The names of medal winners and participants are: Master Trilok Subba – three gold, 1st Master individual Poomsae event, 1stMaster Pair Poomsae Event, Senior team Poomsae Event; Mr Rajen Subba – 1 gold and 1 bronze, Senior team Poomsae Event – gold and 1st Master Individual Poomsae Event – bronze; Ms. Sabitri Pradhan – 1gold and 1 bronze, 1st, Master Pair Poomsae Event – gold and 1st Master Individual Poomsae Event – silver; Mr Amit Pradhan – 1 gold and 1 bronze, Senior team Poomsae Event – gold and 2nd senior Individual Poomsae Event- bronze; Mr Suman Tamang – 1 bronze, under 72 kg senior male Kheorugi Event; and Ms. Sneeha Pradhan -1 silver, under 27 kg sub-junior girls Kheorugi Event.

Participants were Mr Ganga Ram Pradhan who reached upto quarter final in 2nd senior individual male Poomsae event and Ms. Banshika Pradhan also reached upto quarter final under 57 kg junior girls Kheorugi event.

Earlier, the President SATA also presented a brief introduction of SATA and the team members.
