Sakewa celebrated in the State, prayed for peace and harmony

Jointly organized by Cultural Affairs and Heritage Department Government of Sikkim and Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre Kolkata Government of India Sakewa the prime festival of the Rai community was celebrated at Bhaichung Stadim of South District head quarters.

The Chief Minister Mr. Pawan Chamling who graced the occasion as the chief guest was accorded with the Saya Chongoma the tradition puja and offerings of prayers of the community.

Mr. Chamling on the occasion in his message urged all the communities of Sikkim to be united and work in tandem with the government to shepherd the state towards the path of prosperity.

He also informed that his government has given equal right and protection to all the communities in the state and has not left anyone to complain.

Mr. Chamling also praised that the society of Sikkim is an exemplary one which has lived in such a peaceful and serene environment and hoped that it’ll remain same in the future also.

Hard work has no substitute and to be successful and to flourish one must work tireless without any expectation of results as if one works hard they are bound to yield good dividends  sooner or later.

The Chief Minister also urged the students and the younger generation of the state to be more visionary and start taking full advantages of the futuristic and people centric, plan, policies and ample opportunities which the government ahs brought in Sikkim.

Taking Collective responsibility will help us to prosper more and Sikkim will be really a model state not only in the nation but also in the world so let us all try and give our best efforts to the state, he advised.

The cultural extravaganza which also exhibited the, paintings, literatures, tradition attires and antiques of the community was visited and admired by the Chief Guest earlier in the programme.

Mr. Chamling also visited stall which displayed the organic fruits and vegetables from Poklok Kamrang of South district.

The occasion also saw release of text book of Rai language for the students of class VI by the Chief Guest.

The organizers also felicitated Ms Aparajita Rai who recent got through Union Public Service Commission examination who incidentally is only the 3rd female from the state to attain such glory and Ms. Raksha Rai for making her mark in essay writing competition in national level.Mr. Chamling presented them with citation and shawl.

Mr. Chamling also gave away the prizes to the winners of Sili competition, Gom Block managed to get the top position and Pakjer block of Poklok Kamrang bagged the 1st position in the organic fruits and vegetables display competition.

The Chief Minister also presented mementos to the representatives of various ethnics’ communities of Sikkim and to the guests who came from the neighboring country of Nepal and from Darjeeling district of West Bengal.

Earlier on 22nd May the Sakewa celebration was formally inaugurated by the Minister for Agriculture Mr. D.N Takarpa in the same venue who in his address highlighted the various developmental works done by the Mr. Chamling led government in the last 17 years and also visited the stalls which exhibited the paintings, literatures, tradition attires and antiques of the community and also the stall which displayed displayed the organic fruits and vegetables from Poklok Kamrang of South district.

Mr. Vinod Rai the area MLA welcomed the guest with his welcome note on the occasion.
