SU organizes a day long awareness program on Biodiversity Conservation at Aho Yangtam

Sikkim University organized a day long awareness programme on “Biodiversity Conservation” in Aho Yangtam, East Sikkim on 11th July, 2011.

The day long programme was conducted by representatives from the University- Dr. Santosh Kumar Rai, Mr. Nishad Subba, Mr. Vivek Moktan and Mr .Veer Mayank respectively.

The topics covered were importance of biodiversity conservation, Environment Protection Act, environmental law, waste management and civic sense. Video clips of relevant topics were also shown to the participants in a brief presentation.

The programme concluded with plantation of saplings of local tree species in surrounding vacant areas and water sources. Furthermore the programme was supported by Forest Environment and Wildlife Management Department, Government of Sikkim.
