With a view to meet the requirement of fish in Sikkim, the State Fisheries Directorate under Animal Husbandry, Livestock, Fisheries and Veterinary Services Department has taken up two projects at Kynosla and Baba Mandir area in East District. Both the projects are in construction stage at present. In order to ensure quality construction and timely completion of the projects, a team of officers from Fisheries Directorate led by D. P. Sharma, Secretary, Animal Husbandry, Livestock, Fisheries & Veterinary Services visited the site on 20th March, 2011.
The Secretary was accompanied by D. K. Pradhan, Additional Director and R. P. Sharma, Joint Director from Fisheries Directorate. Due to road extension work being taken up at present in between Gangtok and Nathula coupled with snow fall etc the progress in work has been hampered. The official from National Fisheries Development Board also visited the work in the recent past and has expressed his happiness on the progress of work. On being satisfied with the work Mr. Sharma, Secretary, AH, L, F & VS urged the officers to complete the work timely without undermining quality.
All out efforts are being made to ensure quality in work and timely completion of construction of fish rearing centre in these two places. On completion, the project will support tourism sector also. Every care has been taken to not to disturb flora and fauna of the area and make the project nature friendly. It is expected that in the near future trout fish would find place in the fish market in the State.
