A mountain biking rally was organized at 23 Syari constituency on 31st May with an aim of spreading awareness regarding health and drug abuse.
The rally started from Chandmari Check Post and ended at Pabyuk Naitam. Speaker of Sikkim Legislative Assembly Mr. K.T Gyaltsen who is also the area MLA was the chief guest on the occasion.
In the rally 12 people participated from different departments. While speaking to reporters Speaker, Mr K.T Gyaltsen said that they want to promote 23 Syari constituency as a tourism destination and introduce mountain biking for sustainable eco tourism opportunities plus create an awareness on the subject of drug abuse and alcoholism among the youths of Sikkim. Through the mountain biking event they want to give some message to people of the said constituency about drugs.
He further informed that 23 Syari constituency will be beautified and developed by 2013 and especially they will focus on tourism sector because tourist are increasing every year in the state. State Government has sanctioned Rs 2.50 lakh for development of Syari constituency as informed by Mr Gyaltsen.
The constituency plans to construct a Sai Mandir at 14th Mile and develop more avenues for adventure tourism. Mr. Gyalsten further mentioned that they have also plans for working towards spreading awareness about the two social evils of drug abuse and alcoholism and to start with they want to make their constituency a drug free constituency, he also appealed to all the people to support this cause. The rally that kick started from Forest Check Post, took a short halt at Chongay Primary School for refreshment and interaction with the students and public on tourism and anti drugs issues and alcohol.
Similarly the rally took short halt at Bhushuk Junior high School and a similar interaction with the students was held. The next stop was Pabyuk Secondary School and interaction with the students. At last the rally reached at Pabyuk Monastery and offered Khadas and prayers. During the mountain biking event Tourist Department officials, social NGO Recovering Users Network (RUN) and Councillor, Panchayats, youths of 23 Syari constituency were present.
