Sikkim Arm Police won Sikkim Open Volleyball Tournament

Volleyball mania in Tingley is finally over with Sikkim Arm Police team B lifting winner cup and cash prize of Rs. 50,000 beating its own counterparts- SAP Team A by 3-1 in Intra Sikkim Open Volleyball Tournament being organised on the occasion of I-Day celebration on 17th August 2011.

The tournament was organised by Amar Jyoti Club Tingley in collaboration with Tingley sec. school which was attended by Mrs. Tilu Gurung, Minister for Building and Housing as Chief Guest while Advisor to tourism department GM Gurung was special guest.

While addressing the gathering, Minister Tilu Gurung urged the students develop their personality in the school itself to compete with the students of the private institutions and highlighted the schemes of the Government for meritorious students and urged them to avail benefits. She also highlighted the effort of Government to keep students and minors from Drugs and alcohols thereby enforcing a strong and rigid law. She appreciated the endeavour of the Club in engaging youths in sports activities which contribute good health and keep them away from evil doing.

Apart from Volleyball tournament, final of Mini team football was another attraction which was lifted by Nizrameng beating Bermiok by 2-1 with cash prize of Rs. 5,000 and 3,000 respectively.

During the programme, two personalities were felicitated for their benevolent service to the mankind that Prahlad Gurung of Tingley was felicitated in recognition of his service for the socio-economic upliftment of the poor people and Roshan Kaushik of Lower Kitam in recognition of his tireless effort and service for reactivation of youth clubs and motivation to youths, honoured with shawl and Felicitation letter.

The programme also saw the colourful events with a mock drill on Environment by National Green Corps and cultural dance competition which received appreciative applause with Chuba team claiming 1st prize while Nizrameng and Tingley School bagged 2nd and 3rd prize respectively.
