A meeting headed by the president of Badminton Association of Sikkim was held at the Indoor Gymnasium Hall, Gangtok.
The occasion was also chaired by its Chief Patron Shri. D. B. Thapa, Minister for Urban Housing and Development Department and Food and Civil Supplies Department. The body decided to hold Winter Badminton Coaching Camp for the young aspirants from all districts starting from 13th December 2010 to 31st Jan 2011.
The camp would comprise of two categories, one for the beginners and other for the enthusiasts already acquainted with the sport. The following coaches would supervise the camp. Mr. Sameer Gurung-NIS, State Badminton Coach, Mr. Prasanjit Roy, Training coach of Badminton Association of Cooch Bihar and former National Player.
During the proposed winter camp, children from the vicinity of Gangtok would be provided with food whereas the lodging and fooding of children from the districts would be borne by the BAS. With badminton sports enhancing its popularity day by day, it is also anticipated that a weeklong coaching session under the expertise of Mr. P. Gopichand former all India badminton champion and presently the chief coach of India and with player like Ms Sania Newal under his scaffold, could be fixed for our young aspirants to garner its opulence for the success of tomorrow. This is possible due to the commitment by Mr. P Gopichand given to the President of BAS who also happens to be the Executive Member of the BAI, during the General Meeting of Badminton Association of India at Chennai.
It was also decided to send promising players for further coaching at Guwahati jointly conducted by the Badminton Association of Assam and Badminton Association of India. Interested candidates have been requested to obtain the required forms with basic fee from M/S Bharat Shoe, M.G Marg, Gangtok.
