Public is supreme in democratic system: Consumer Commission

Gangtok 21st May: The Department of Weights and Measures and Consumer Protection Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs had organized a Conference of Members of Sikkim State Commission Disputes Redressal Commission and President and Members of District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum at the Conference hall of High Court of Sikkim here in the capital today.

Addressing the conference, Justice S.P Wangdi, Judge, High Court of Sikkim, who is also the President of Sikkim State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, said that the members of the State Commission and District Forum should be accessible to the masses. The members should act as guide to the general public and make them aware about the Act, he added. Mr. Wangdi also suggested to do hard work with sincerity and dedication in the larger interest of the public. Public is the supreme in the democratic system therefore, the primary responsibility of the public servant is to take care of the people, he said. He also advised the council and forum to organise more awareness programme among the people regarding the Consumer Protection Act. Secretary, Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department Ms. Nalani Pradhan suggested the members to go through the rules of Consumer Protection Act.

The conference was also attended by the Districts Judges, Officials of Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs.
