Sikkim in all set for Panchayat election tomorrow

Gangtok, November 2, 2012:

All the Polling Parties of East District left for their respective Polling Booths for the Panchayat Election 2012 from the Polling Material Distribution Centre, TNA Auditorium, Gangtok today.

The Polling for the Panchayat Election 2012 is scheduled for 3rd November 2012.

The Polling Materials were distributed by the respective Returning Officers to the Polling Parties. Altogether there are 260 Polling Booths going for the polls.

So Sikkim is fully prepared for free and fair poll for the panchayat election 2012.

There will be total of 260 polling station in East Sikkim and accordingly 260 polling parties have been formed for which appointment orders are being sent to the concerned department, he informed. One polling party will consists of one Presiding Officer and four Polling Officers.

Two strong rooms have been finalised at the Auditorium Hall of Tashi Namgyal Academy and the hall has been fixed as the counting centre and further the polling materials will also be dispatched from this place for which the center have already been inspected by the district authority.

Nmachi: In the presence of the Observer, S.K Pradhan, Returning Officer for Zliia, D.C (South) A.K Singh, S.P (South) Manoj Tiwari, Sector Magistrates, and all other Returning Officers. The Presiding and the Polling Officers of all 179 polling stations of South District were handed over the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and necessary Polling materials for tomorrow’s Zilla and Ward Panchayat Elections, and dispatched for their respective polling stations.

These machines and materials were handed over to the Presiding and Polling officers of the said number of Polling stations in the Auditorium hall of Namchi Sr Secondary School, which has also been set up as the “Control Room”.

The Panchayat Polls will see 39 candidates contesting for 15 Zilla Panchatays seats and 232 candidates contesting for 99 Ward Panchayats in South District.
