Meeting on National Lok Adalat held in Sikkim

Gangtok, October 1, 2013

A meeting under the Chairmanship of Justice S.P. Wangdi, Judge, High Court of Sikkim and Executive Chairman, Sikkim SLSA was held on September 28 in the Conference Hall of High Court of Sikkim with regard to holding of the National Lok Adalat scheduled on November 23, 2013 throughout the state as per the directions of National Legal Services Authority.

At the outset, Justice S.P. Wangdi informed about the significance of lok Adalats and National Lok Adalat to be held on November 23.

He suggested the respective participants to identify disputes pertaining to boundary, land acquisition, family disputes especially in remote areas, petty criminal compoundable cases, MACT cases, consumer cases, disaster compensation, disputes regarding MGNREGA etc which could be brought before the Lok Adalat for amicable settlement. The object is to secure peace and harmony in the society.

The meeting was attended by Mr DR Nepal, Secretary, RMDD, Mr KS Tobgay, Secretary, LR&DMD, Mrs. K.C. Barphunga, Registrar General, High Court of Sikkim, Mr. KW Bhutia, Member Secretary, SLSA, Sikkim, District Collector, East, and Judicial Officers of all the districts amongst others.
